The Andhra Pradesh government owned discoms have applied to the state electricity regulator (APERC) for the approval of solar power they proposed to procure from NTPC at Rs 6.16 a unit (see box). On the other hand, NTPC in its recent tender for the same project got a bid from SunEdison, the US renewable energy major, at Rs 4.63 a unit. Now, APERC will decide what tariff can be paid to NTPC by discoms for buying solar power from them.
