Kolkata Metro’s non-fare revenue soars by nearly 20%, outpacing previous year’s earnings

The Kolkata Metro Railways recorded a massive increase of 19.9 per cent in non-fare revenue earnings for the fiscal year 2023-24, generating more revenue than the last year.

A spokesperson for the Metro named Kausik Mitra said they earned Rs 43.56 crore from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, which is more than the Rs 36.33 crore they earned the year before. In March 2024 alone, they made Rs 3.44 crore, as PTI reported.

Kolkata Metro, which is one of the smallest zones of Indian Railways, usually gets most of its money from ticket sales. But to make more money, they’ve come up with new ideas and plans to make improvements in NRF (Non-Fare Revenue) earnings.

They’re thinking about tying up with companies to put their logos and ads in Metro stations, like on displays, stalls, and digital screens. With new Metro lines opening up, they hope to make even more revenue in the year 2024-25.

More companies have shown their interest in working with the Metro in order to make more money in the NRF earnings category.

As for the number of footfalls, Kolkata Metro carried 19.25 crore people in 2023-24, which is 8.82% more than the year before when they carried 17.69 crore people.

Earlier, the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety, Janak Kumar Garg, checked out the Beleghata-Ruby section of the Kolkata Metro’s Airport-New Garia line on March 29, reported PTI. They tested how fast trains could go on a 4.4-km section along the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass.
