CHENNAI: Work on the Rs 19.8-crore pedestrian plaza at Khader Nawaz Khan Road in Nungambakkam commenced on Friday, with municipal administration and water supply minister K N Nehru setting a one-year deadline to complete it.
KNK Road will have broader platforms on one side and a single dedicated lane for vehicles to pick up and drop visitors.
After inaugurating the work, Nehru also visited Mambalam Canal where restoration work is being carried out at Rs 7 crore. The canal is being widened near CIT Nagar and is being desilted. He also visited T Nagar flyover, being built at a cost of Rs 130 crore, and took stock of the number of piles placed.
