The Power Supply Challenge

As on March 31, 2015, India had 267,637 MW power plant capacity and by now this figure would have gone up by few notches. But, if one looks at the latest data of actual power supply position for the first week of June 2015, the unmet demand varies between 2,959 MW to 5,000 MW over a total demand of 127,347 MW to 134,209 MW. That means almost half of the power capacity is unavailable or non-operational or not operated for different reasons.
