HYDERABAD: Land acquisition for expansion of state and national highways and various other projects in Telangana has emerged as a major challenge in an election year.
With prices of land abutting the highway spiralling up to 2 crore to 3 crore per acre and upwards, and farmers going for two crops per year due to availability of free power and water for irrigation purposes throughout the year, none of the owners are willing to part with their land parcels.
Over 10,000 acres of land is required for expansion of various stretches of state and national highways in Telangana alone. However, farmers have been coming onto the roads and staging protests against land acquisition.
