MUMBAI: The ground level for the Metro Line 6 car shed at Kanjurmarg will be built above the level of the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) and the local flood level, said metropolitan commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee. Mukherjee said the land for the car shed has been planned outside the Coastal Regulation Zone area, ensuring compliance with regulations.
The explanation comes following a complaint filed by environmentalist Debi Goenka with the Union ministry of environment, forests and climate change that the Maharashtra government “is actively attempting to permit construction of metro car sheds, low cost housing etc on salt pan lands that are within the low tide line and the high tide line and are therefore in the CRZ IB category.”
