Optimum utilisation of coal through flexibility in coal utilisation and transparency in merit order power dispatch would save the consumer about Rs 20,000 crores in five years, power, coal, renewable energy and mines minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday.
The minister also launched two mobile applications – Merit and Coal flexible utilisation app.
Goyal said the Merit app will demistify opaqueness related to the power purchase by state discoms.
Coal flexible utilisation app will help states to transfer coal to efficient power projects in transparent way, he said.
