CHENNAI: Motorists from Mandaveli or Kapaleeswarar temple to Luz Junction may have to take circuitous route as Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) will demolish a culvert bridge located on the main road opposite Thirumayilai MRTS station to build tunnels as part of the phase-2 project.
A new bridge will be built nearby to replace the demolished structure through which vehicular traffic will be diverted. The proposed Thirumayilai metro station, which is an interchange linking two corridors, will have deepest tunnels at 35m depth. Thirumayilai and the stations it links will be the last to open for the public in 2028 as construction of Thirumayilai station and the associated tunnels will be a challenge to build.
