BENGALURU: A whopping 32,000 trees have been identified for removal to build a greenfield highway connecting the three districts of Hassan, Tumakuru and Chitradurga.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is building the economic corridor under Bharatmala Pariyojana. As per the final environmental impact assessment report, the alignment starts from NH 75 (Bengaluru – Mangaluru national highway) at Ranganathapura village near Hassan and ends at Hulagalakunte village near Hiriyur in Chitradurga district.
The total length of the proposed greenfield corridor is 114km and it passes through 94 villages. The capital cost of the project, including for land acquisition, is Rs 4,801 crore.
