After remaining closed for six days in connection with repair work, the Wayil bailey bridge on the vital Kangan-Ganderbal-Srinagar road has been thrown open for traffic movement, officials said on Monday.

Commissioner Secretary, Public Works Department, Khurshid Ahmed Shah today convened a meeting to review the performance of various projects taken under PMGSY.

After remaining closed for traffic for six consecutive days, Wayil bridge in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district was thrown open for traffic on Monday, bringing much relief to the motorists and commuters.

In a significant development, the public works department has started work on major projects worth Rs 380 crore in the summer capital with funding from Jammu and Kashmir Infrastructure Development Financial Corporation (JKIDFC).

The closure of the Srinagar-Jammu highway 21 times in the past two months has cost Kashmir economy at least Rs 1995 crore, traders and officials say.
