NEW DELHI: More than 15 lakh consumers have opted out of Delhi government’s power subsidy scheme.
As per the power department’s estimates, in 2021, an average of 47 lakh of a total 58 lakh domestic consumers benefited from the government’s subsidy scheme every month. The number of beneficiaries ranged from a little over 34.1 lakh in July, the peak month of power consumption, to a little less than 55 lakh in December, when the consumption was the lowest in the year.
Till December 13 this year, only 40.3 lakh consumers have applied for subsidy. Officials said they are getting only a handful of applications now and most consumers who wanted to continue getting the subsidy have already registered with the power distribution companies.
