Government to announce new rules on P&W engines today

The government is set to announce mandatory guidelines on operation of Airbus 320 neo aircraft with single defective Pratt & Whitney engines by evening today.

“We have consulted all stakeholders concerned and the mandatory guidelines is likely to be issued by the end of today,” aviation secretary R N Choubey told reporters.

On a pointed question on whether grounding also is an option, he said: “we are looking at all options like restricting movement of these aircraft to high altitude airports. No option is being ruled out.”

The DGCA has recently announced rules grounding aircraft with both defective engine, which led to grounding of 3 IndiGo aircraft.
