Dubai, Singapore top destinations from Kempegowda International Airport

Dubai and Singapore have once again emerged as the top international destination for passengers at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).More passengers boarded flights to these destination compared to others in the first quarter (January-March) of 2018.

As per the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA’s) city-wise international passenger statistics to and from Indian territory during the quarter January-March 2018, a total of 9,08,075 international passengers transited through the airport during this period.

A total of 1,93,968 passengers travelled to and from Dubai and 1,30,650 passengers travelled to and from Singapore during the first quarter of the year. From Bengaluru alone, 1.39 lakh passengers and 68,039 passengers boarded flights to Dubai and Singapore respectively.

Colombo (65,946 passengers), Abu Dhabi (56,710), Frankfurt (52,320), Doha (44,685) and Bangkok (41,881) were the other popular destinations for travellers.

To the other airport in Thailand, Don Mueang International Airport, 1,37,56 passengers travelled to and fro. Intotal 55,637 passengers travelled to and from Thailand during the first quarter of the year.

The statistics also highlighted that the Amsterdam route is steadily attracting passengers. Jet Airways started operating a non-stop flight from Bengaluru to Amsterdam from October 29. During the first quarter of the year 38,420 passengers travelled on this new route of which 22,031 passengers boarded their flight to the European city from Bengaluru.

During the last quarter of 2017 between October and December, around 10,195 passengers travelled to Amsterdam from Bengaluru.

During the first quarter of 2018, KIA was connected to 21 international destinations. In the second quarter, a new destination has been added as Gulf Air started operations to Bahrain, taking the overall destinations to 22 (20 direct and two connecting).
