Notwithstanding Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari’s promise that four-laning of National Highway 75 between Addahole and BC Road (65 km) in Dakshina Kannada would be hastened, work has not picked up pace even a month after the assurance.
Residents of adjoining areas are more concerned about the incomplete work with debris of earth excavations lying everywhere. Hill cutting and excavation, residents say, have altered the natural course of rainwater and they fear the worst during the monsoon.
Lands abutting the existing national highway in places such as Periyashanthi have seen deep excavations, leaving a very narrow space for vehicles.
