In an interim relief to several slum-dwellers from Virar quarry area, the Bombay High Court on Tuesday stayed their eviction by the Western Railway (WR) authoritites till May 4.
The stay came after a plea by Phule-Ambedkar Zoppadpatti Bachav Sangarsh Samitee, representing the aggrieved slum-dwellers, sought urgent relief from the court. The plea stated that the Western Railways had put demolition notices asking them to vacate the encroached area before April 25, without mentioning any rehabilitation scheme, flouting HC and SC orders, said advocate Kishor Patil for the petitioner organisation.
