MUMBAI: Now, women commuters can experience a more comfortable journey in local trains as the Western Railway (WR) has added 25 seats in each rake.
The seating capacity was expanded from October 8 with the modification of the 11th general coach, adjacent to the existing women’s coach. WR’s chief public relations officer Sumit Thakur said, “The seating capacity was increased after assessing the demand from women commuters.”
In 2019, season ticket passengers totalled 64.6 crore, of whom 24.4% or 15.7 crore were women. In 2020, the percentage of women season ticket passengers rose to 26% out a total of 26.4 crore.
