KOLKATA: Residents of the remote Ghoramara island of Sunderbans will finally have electricity. A 250KW solar power plant, the largest off-grid facility in the country, is being set up here. A team of IIT-Kharagpur experts headed by renewable energy scientist Santi Pada Gon Chaudhuri has taken up the job to light up the area with over 5,000 people.
Funded by the Union ministry of science and technology, the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year, will also help operate boats, pumps and totos.
