KOLKATA: The state government has invited tenders to demolish the railway overbridge at Chitpore, KMDA officials said on Monday after a coordination meeting between various agencies.
The demolition will start once the new Tallah bridge is thrown open to traffic later this month. Till then, heavy vehicles will not be allowed on the existing overbridge. The decision was taken in Monday’s meeting that was attended by mayor Firhad Hakim, municipal affairs secretary Khalil Ahmed, Cossipore MLA Atin Ghosh and officials from state PWD and Eastern Railway. The state was keen on rehabilitating the families that have been residing as settlers adjacent to the bridge. “We have initiated talks with the Railways on the rehabilitation issue,” said Ghosh.
“We have been asked to cooperate in all possible ways,” an Eastern Railway official told TOI.
