US-headquartered Wabtec Corporation has bagged a Rs 1,300 crore ($157 million) order from Siemens India. The award is to supply brake systems for the 9000 Horsepower (HP) locomotive project for Indian Railways which Siemens is executing. In all, 1200-electric locomotives will be supplied by Siemens. These engines are targeted for freight movement.
Wabtec said it will be supplying Siemens with brake systems from Wabtec’s Hosur plant for 11 years and with maintenance services for 35 years. Siemens will assemble the locomotives at the Indian Railways factory in Dahod, Gujarat.
