NEW DELHI: Vistara has become the first Indian carrier to operate a long haul on a wide body aircraft using a blend of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) when it operated the delivery flight of a Dreamliner from Charleston (US) to Delhi. This ferry flight (without passengers, only operating crew) on GE Aerospace newest GEnx-powered Boeing 787-9 aircraft using a blend of 30% SAF with 70% conventional jet fuel helped Vistara reduce about 1.5 lakh pounds of CO₂ emissions over the fuel’s life cycle. Soon-to-be-merged-with-Air-India Vistara now has four Dreamliners in its fleet.
Among Indian carriers, IndiGo has operated Airbus A320 family aircraft and SpiceJet the turboprop Bombardier Q400 using blends of SAF with regular jet fuel.
