Upping the development of European standard roads in the country, Union Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several projects worth in Uttarakhand on Tuesday.
The Union Minister along with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami dedicated 30 National Highway (NH) projects worth Rs 4,755 crore in Haridwar and eight NH projects worth more than Rs 2,200 crore in Tanakpur, Champawat.
“I was told about various problems in the state, and today I am glad that most of those issues will be resolved. I promise you all that the projects worth around two lakh crore will be initiated to boost road infrastructure,” Nitin Gadkari said while promising that the government will provide the state with road infrastructure of international standard
“Roads in Uttarakhand will be like those in Switzerland and Australia,” he added.
Notably, the central government is in the process of spending Rs 2 lakh crore on road infrastructure in Uttarakhand and its roads will be like those in the United States by the end of 2024, Gadkari said.
Bolstering road infra
While speaking on the occasion of national highway projects worth over Rs 2,200 crore in Tanakpur, the Union Minister said, “Rs 1.40 crore is being spent in Uttarakhand over road infrastructure at present to which an additional Rs 60 crore will soon be added to make it a total expenditure of Rs 2 lakh crore.”
“In the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami I want to announce that by the end of 2024, the national highways in Uttarakhand will be matching international standards. They will be like those in the US,” he added.
Comparatively, Uttarakhand’s total national highway network was around 2,517 km, which has now risen to 3,608 km.

Chief Minister Dhami also mentioned that building roads is imperative to strengthen human civilisation and said, “A golden one for Uttarakhand in terms of road projects. Better roads and a fast pace of development have become the new identity of Devbhoomi,” he asserted.
After completion, these projects will bring new strength to the road connectivity in Uttarakhand along with providing seamless transportation facilities to the tourists coming to the state.
Meanwhile, the chief minister said the projects whose foundation stone was laid at Tanakpur on Tuesday were long-awaited and will strengthen connectivity in the Manaskhand region in a big way.
