Two labourers died on the spot while eight were injured when the shuttering of a bridge under construction near Narkota in Rudraprayag district on the national highway to Badrinath collapsed on Wednesday morning. The district administration has ordered a probe into the incident.
The shuttering of the bridge being constructed as part of the all-weather road project at Narkota on the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway 58 collapsed at about 9 AM on Wednesday. Ten labourers were crushed by the collapsed part of the structure. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police reached the site and conducted a joint operation to rescue the labourers. Metal cutters were used to cut through the metal rods used in the shuttering in order to reach the trapped labourers.
