Chief minister Yogi Adityanath said selfreliance in the power sector is important for making UP ‘atmanirbhar’ and in the last four years the government has succeeded in increasing transmission capacity by 53% to 25,000 MW.
The CM inaugurated two sub-stations of 220 KV and nine sub-stations of 132 KV constructed at a cost of Rs 1,347.91 crore virtually on Saturday. Yogi also laid the foundation of 10 sub-stations of 220 KV and six sub-stations of 132 KV to be constructed for Rs1,347.91 crore.
“The power infrastructure we had inherited was in shambles. However, in the past four years, the transmission capacity has increased by 53% and risen to 25,000 MW. The state has moved towards self-reliance in the power sector, which is important for making UP ‘atmanirbhar’,” the CM said.
Free connection given to 1.38cr consumers: CM
The CM added that several transmission works costing Rs 6,100 crore are currently being executed through public private partnership mode in the state. The sub-stations launched on Saturday will improve power distribution in Bulandshahr, Muzaffarnagar, Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Sitapur and Mirzapur. The substations for which foundation stones were laid are in Lucknow, Varanasi, Fatehpur, Gonda, Jhansi, Farrukhabad, Agra, Saharanpur,Meerut, Maharajganj, Bhadohi, Firozabad, Basti, Banda, Baghpat and Kushinagar.
“The improvement in power sector has helped farmers. The availability of power helped reduce input costs and increase production,” he said.
“It also helped the government during Covid crisis by allowing construction of hospitals in remote areas, providing telemedicine and telecommunication facilities,” he added.
“Over 1.21 lakh villages have been electrified while free connections have been provided to 1.38 crore consumers. The government ensured there is no discrimination in power distribution on basis of religion or region,” Yogi said.
