Farmers in Punjab halted trains at more than 62 locations as a part of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha’s six-hour ‘rail roko’ agitation over the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, hampering the movement of trains across the State.
Thousands of farmers — including women, elderly and children — squatted on railway tracks from 10 in the morning, and continued their protest dharna till 4 in the evening. At several locations, the group of protesters put up a banner with ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’, while at many places, the banners carrying pictures of four farmers killed in the Lakhimpur violence, were placed. Agitations were held at Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Moga, Patiala, and Ferozepur, with farmers sitting on rail tracks in several sections,
