Kolkata: Indian National Mine Workers’ Federation, affiliated to INTUC has demanded Rs 50 lakh insurance against death due to Coronavirus for every coal worker on duty during lockdown period and thereafter till the COVID-19 pandemic ceases.
In a statement, the INMF said that few unions are also demanding closure of mining activities towards coal production due to COVID-19 lockdown. However, Director General of Mines Safety & Chief Inspector of Mines through a recent circular addressed to owner, agent and manager of mines concerned has quoted legal provisions and centre’s directives for uninterrupted mineral & coal production and its transportation etc during the lockdown period.
