Be it the latest EV or a 1931 Stoewer – keeping any car idle for too long kills it before time. And who knows this better than vintage car owners who are always looking for an opportunity to take their glorious machines out on the roads. With winter almost here, it is the best season for vintage car rallies and Kolkata’s vintage car owners kicked off the season on Sunday by taking a fleet of 15 out for a long drive.
After assembling in front of Town Hall, they rallied through the city streets and highways to reach a dhaba on Durgapur Expressway for breakfast. It took them more than five hours to complete the round trip. “All of these cars are 80, 90 or even 100 years old. Despite being in perfect running condition, the highest speed some of these can reach is 40 km per hour,” said Prithvi Nath Tagore, trustee of Classic Drivers Club, which organised the drive.
