MUMBAI: Chief minister Eknath Shinde ordered a technical survey by the BMC for twin or double-decker tunnels on Tuesday to end traffic congestion in the city.
Officials said the new concept envisions either two tunnels alongside each other or one tunnel with two decks of vehicular traffic, and these can even be used for multiple transport systems.
“Globally, tunnelling is becoming an attractive option,” an official said. “Even though it is more expensive, there is no need to demolish structures and acquire properties.”
