THANE: Maharashtra cabinet minister Jitendra Awhad has warned of staging a ‘rail roko’, protesting the delay in constructing a foot over bridge near the railway tracks between Kalwa and Mumbra.
Awhad, who is a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, issued a threat to the railway administration on social media on Monday, claiming residents are forced to cross the tracks to cross over to the highway on the other side leading to nearly eight deaths in the last eight days.
The stretch is densely populated and a bridge for residents to cross over from the residential zone towards the highway on the other side of the tracks was okayed and work started in 2017 but was halted in between.
