HYDERABAD: After the recent hike in tariffs, a fresh power shock is in store for electricity consumers.
The two discoms in the state are now gearing up to collect 4,092 crore as true-up charges for the past 15 years. And the worst-hit would be those living in rented houses as they would have to pay up for power consumed by previous tenants.
True-up charges are collected to fill the gap in power supply, and billed amount and collection.
While true-up charges are usually sought for one or two previous years, the two discoms — Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Ltd (TSSPDCL) and Telangana State Northern Power Distribution Company Ltd (TSNPDCL) — have submitted proposals for previous 15 years since 2006-07 to 2020-21.
