CHENNAI: From now on, domestic electricity consumers who exceed their sanctioned load of power three times within 12 months will have to pay additional development charges and security deposit to the Tangedco. An amendment to Tamil Nadu Electricity Supply Code providing for the additional charges has been gazetted already.
For example, if the power load of a household is 8kW, and if it exceeds the load limit three times and touches 10kW in a period of 12 months, then 10kW will become the new connection load of the house concerned. Accordingly, the consumer will be levied development charges and security deposit for the additional load in the next electricity bill along with consumption charges.
