CHENNAI: Southern Railway’s Chennai division has launched a tower car, that can be operated on battery and overhead power, to carry out inspection, maintenance and repairs of overhead power cables and equipment, on Wednesday.
The EMU Car Shed in Avadi built the eco-friendly self-propelled Prakriti tower car by converting an old motor coach of an EMU.
The EMU Car Shed, Avadi has converted an old EMU motor coach into OHE cum battery powered tower car for OHE inspection, maintenance and hotline monitoring. It is fitted with two sets of batteries like the ones in AC III tier coaches, tool cabinets, crew rest area, inspection boom, safety appliances and others.
The tower car will be able to run for 11hours in half power and three and a half hours n full power.
