Chennai: Tamil Nadu is really power surplus and the power cuts faced by residents are temporary and not due to shortage of power said state power minister P Thangamani. Replying to a barrage of questions from the opposition over the claims about power surplus when people are facing unscheduled cuts, the minister blamed the weather for the sudden outages.
“It is not a myth that Tamil Nadu is power surplus. We have increased the power capacity in the state and by December this year, 800MW unit in North Chennai will be commissioned and by 2021-22, not less than 6000MW of thermal capacity will be added,” said Thangamani.
Replying to DMK MLAs Senthil Balaji and Anbil Mahesh Pozhyamozhi, the minister said no state can claim to be power surplus without depending on purchase of power.
