TA Regiment disbanded, prime Railways land lies unguarded
An eerie silence pervades the unit lines and training area of the now-disbanded 1101 Railway Engineer Regiment of Territorial Army (TA) on the busy Chandigarh-Panchkula road. There are no more Army guards to prevent entry of unauthorised persons and the entire piece of prime land, totalling 74 acres including forest, now lies vacant and is susceptible to squatting.
The officers and jawans of the disbanded regiment had moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the disbandment of the regiment and had managed to obtain a stay on their discharge from the Territorial Army.
