NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday refused bail to three people convicted by a trial court, which was confirmed by the Gujarat HC, for pelting with stones and damaging with iro n rods the burning S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express at Godhra railway station and looting cash and ornaments from passengers fleeing for their lives in February 2002.
Appearing for the three convicts — Saukat Yusuf Ismail Mohan Bibino, Bilal Abdullah Ismail Badam Ghanchi and Siddik aka Matunga Abdullah Badam Shaikh — who are serving life sentence, senior advocate Sanjay Hegde said they had been in jail for nearly 20 years and that some of their family members had medical conditions requiring their presence.
