MUMBAI: Seven airline aircraft parked on ground at Ahmedabad airport sustained various degrees of damage due to thunderstorm activity and strong winds that gusted through the airport on Wednesday evening.
Among them were three A320 aircraft belonging to IndiGo, two GoAir A320s and one SpiceJet Boeing 737, said sources.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is looking into the incident, said Arun Kumar, director general of civil aviation.
An IndiGo spokesperson said: “Ahmedabad airport was hit by an unexpected thunderstorm with extremely high winds last evening. This impacted all airlines’ aircraft parked at Ahmedabad airport. Three IndiGo aircraft sustained minor/non-structural damages which will require replacement of certain parts. The aircraft shall be in operations after necessary repairs.”
