MUMBAI: With cash-strapped Jet Airways struggling to stay afloat, questions are being raised on whether the airline should be allowed to sell advance purchase tickets for travel months later. Two separate parties have taken up the issue, one with a litigation filed in a court and the other by approaching the civil aviation ministry seeking intervention.
Jet Airways currently has a sale offer of upto 50% with fares starting at Rs 1,165. “Considering the severe financial crunch in the company, there is every possibility that Jet Airways may abruptly close down its business activities, leaving thousands of customers who have booked their air tickets in advance by paying huge amount of their hard earned money in lurch,” said the public interest litigation filed by an educationist some months ago in the Indore high court.
