Kolkata: Steel manufacturers in Bengal have requested commerce and industries minister Shashi Panja for a reduction in tariff of the state power utility in order to make over 100 units in the state viable again. The senior vice president of MCCI, Lalit Beriwala, requested Panja during an interactive session that the steel industry has flourished in the state in the last couple of years because DVC power tariff was lucrative.
However, in last six months, the power utility raised the tariff from little over Rs 4.50 to Rs 6.38 per unit which has led to stress for these units.
