NEW DELHI: Amid cases of electric vehicles (EVs) catching fire, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has notified the new performance standards for twowheeler EVs to ensure the safety of consumers.
Titled ‘Performance Standards for Electric Vehicle Batteries’, the new guidelines specifies the test procedures for basic characteristic of performance, reliability and electrical functionality for the Lithium-ion battery packs and systems for either high power or high energy application.
The standards have been formulated considering real-life scenarios for an EV such as a vehicle in parking (battery is not used for an extended time), the battery system is being shipped (stored), operating battery at low and high temperature, and accordingly various tests are incorporated in this.
