NEW DELHI: A SpiceJet flight skidded off the runway at Shirdi airport when it landed there on Monday. Luckily, the Boeing 737 that had flown in from Delhi stopped safely after overshooting the runway when its landing gear got stuck in unpaved area. Everyone onboard the aircraft was safe, although the runway had to be closed for removing the aircraft from there due to which flight operations were hit in Shirdi.
Passengers are learnt to have remained inside the aircraft for a long time. Arrangements for quick deboarding were reportedly not made.
Aviation authorities have categorised this as a serious incident and referred the probe to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Board (AAIB).
A SpiceJet spokesman said: “On Monday, SpiceJet B737-800 aircraft operated (as) SG 946 from Delhi to Shirdi. While landing at Shirdi, the aircraft overshot the runway. Passengers and crew are safe and are being deplaned normally.”
