SpiceJet is not in a hurry to sell stake, a senior airline executive said today.
He was reacting to a media report that said the airline was negotiating a commercial agreement with Qatar Airways, which could eventually lead to a stake sale.
“We have received initial promoter funding from Ajay Singh and there is no crisis situation now. There are parties interested in SpiceJet but we are not in a hurry to sell stake. We continue to hold discussions with multiple airlines for commercial agreements but all the talk about Qatar Airways’ investment is complete speculation,” the executive added.
On Friday, a media report said SpiceJet and Qatar Airways were negotiating an interline agreement which allows airlines to sell on each others network. It also said SpiceJet would make Doha its international hub.
SpiceJet had an interline agreement with Tigerair of Singapore but that tie up has ended.
Prior to its change in ownership earlier this year, SpiceJet was in negotiations with Qatar Airways for a stake sale. SpiceJet had also sought permission from civil aviation ministry to launch Doha flights. However, the talks with Qatar Airways fizzled
