Kolkata: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has suspended the licence of the SpiceJet captain who was at the helm of the Mumbai-Durgapur flight that had encountered extreme turbulence while attempting to land. The incident left 14 passengers and three cabin crew members injured. The pilot has been suspended for six months.
“The decision is based on our inquiry. Another inquiry is being carried out by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau. The licence of the pilot-in-command has been suspended for six months,” said a DGCA official. Though the pilot claimed the incident was due to a faulty weather radar on the aircraft, DGCA has questioned the captain’s actions despite the radar issue.
In the order, the captain was hauled up for the delay in turning on the seatbelt sign when entering into the turbulence.
