Chennai: Southern Railway started running trains at the maximum speed of 130kmph on the Chennai-Gudur section from Monday. It will run 89 mail/express trains at 130kmph on this section.
No 12077 Chennai-Vijayawada Jan Shatabdi Express, which was the first to be operated at the increased speed, left MGR Chennai Central at 7.25am.
The increase in maximum permissible speed in the section is likely to result in the improvement of average speed of the passenger-carrying trains plying between Chennai and Mumbai, New Delhi, Howrah and destinations in Andhra Pradesh.
Goods trains too will be speeded up.
