CHENNAI: Southern Railway has converted all conventional lights at stations and in all other railway buildings into LED as part of its efforts to save energy.
It has also started using power saving BLDC technology for ceiling fans and air circulators.
As a result of a series of steps, Southern Railway saved 570 million units of power in traction category and 18 million units in non-traction during 2020-21 when compared to 2019-20.
This has offset Co2 emission by 5,88,000 tonne and there was a notional saving of Rs 377 crore.
