CHENNAI: Southern Railway loaded 2.938 million tonne of freight in September, an increase of 13.6% over the corresponding period last year.
The growth in freight loading in September was fuelled by incremental loading of 0.25 million tonne in coal and 0.12 million tonne of food grains over September 2021.
The loading of coal and food grains and petroleum oil and lubricants generated earnings of Rs 129.86 crore, Rs 14.56 crore and Rs 30.01 crore, respectively.
The revenue from coal loading increased by 21.21% compared to September 2021. The earnings from food grains grew by 78.21% when compared to September 2021.
