CHENNAI: As a well-marked low pressure area is likely to bring heavy rain and strong winds to Chennai and nearby districts, Southern Railway has posted staff at vulnerable bridges and locations and stepped up patrolling of tracks and audit of track joints as part of steps to prevent delays, disruptions and flooding.
Officials are inspecting all the sections by travelling on locomotives and on motor trolleys before and after spells of heavy rain to ensure that tracks are safe for trains to run.
As strong wind is forecast, platform shelters and cover sheds are being inspected for loose sheets and material susceptible to damage are being checked.
