Areas from Malabar Hill to Mahim went without power supply for two hours on Sunday morning, after a Tata Power receiving station faced a technical snag. The Tata station supplies power to Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), which distributes power in the island city.
The outage affected residents of Mahalaxmi, Worli, Haji Ali , Malabar Hill, Cumballa Hill, Mumbai Central, Parel, Sewri, Byculla, Lalbaug, Matunga , Mahim and Sion. It began at 10.50am, and lasted for up to two hours in most of these areas. The power supply was restored in phases, starting with south Mumbai. “As the work on the snag was on, power supply could be restored only in stages. This lead to a delay,” said a senior BEST official, requesting anonymity.
