BENGALURU: A private engineering college in the city has been cheated of Rs 59 lakh by a solar power installation company that has shut shop and its director has gone missing.
According to the FIR registered with Banashankari police, the college secretary was on September 2022 contacted by an individual who claimed to be the director of a company which installs solar power plants. When the college showed interest in having a rooftop plant installed on its campus, the director showed several brochures to the secretary and told him about his previous ‘projects’ to build a rapport and gain confidence.
The project cost was agreed at Rs 77 lakh and the college paid Rs 8.8 lakh on September 26, Rs 20.6 lakh on October 3 and Rs 30.6 lakh on February 2 this year. The director had said the advance money was needed to source materials.
