The forest department in Haridwar had installed solar fencing along a five-kilometre stretch on Wednesday. However, during the night, mischievous elements cut the solar fencing meant to keep elephants away from human settlements.
The department had installed solar fencing on a five- kilometre stretch from Bilkeshwar to Ranipur and Convention Hall.
Considerable effort was put in for the solar fencing as the area is densely forested. The fencing work was completed on Wednesday morning but on visiting the site to inspect on Thursday morning, the department staff found the wiring cut at many places.
The Haridwar divisional forest officer Akash Verma said that the solar fencing was put up as part of an Indo-German collaboration.
