The government is pushing for the installation of solar water pumps for irrigation and drinking purpose. As on October 31, 2016 a total of 90,710 solar pumps have been installed throughout the country. In the current financial year, the government has a target of 50,000 pumps installation. But the data reveals that most of these activities are happening only in few states with top ten states having about 85 per cent of the installation base. Even Punjab, is at the 15th position (see table-1) with just 1,600 solar pumps installed way back in 2013-14.
