MUMBAI: The Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Goa highway, and the old Mumbai-Pune highway remanined congested on Sunday as Ganeshotsav crowds continued to move out of the city. The congestion began on Friday but traffic was thrown out of gear on Sunday as a container toppled at the Khandala exit of the Expressway on the Mumbai-bound carriageway-causing a three-lane closure.
Highway Safety Patrol Panvel division inspector Sudam Pachorkar said 750 officers and constables were on duty. Rain and potholes affected vehicular movement further, despite civic bodies promising a crater-free Ganeshotsav. While authorities had begun filling potholes across cities, motorists said pockmarks cropped up again after the rain.
